From SoBe to the Jersey Shore

The past three weeks have been tiring to say the least.  Two Sunday evening red-eyes direct to work in the a.m., and a 10:00 flight from Miami last Sunday night.  I'm too old for this lifestyle.  I swore to myself I'd take it easy for a week or two.  Yet, after a few evenings watching Arrested Development Season 4 on Netflix and getting 8 or 9 hours sleep, I feel re-energized.  And, more importantly, I'm itching to play some poker.  So, to loosely paraphrase the great David Puddy, "[I]t feels like a Showboat weekend..."

  1. There's poker in Miami! Good, easy poker! Next time you go out that way, see if you can hit the Hard Rock - total loose passives playing there.

    1. Yeah, I was in Hollywood last year and played Gulfsteam and Mardi Gra . . . I hated the vibe at both (although the poker was truly horrific).

I was with a couple of non-players last weekend, so just couldn't make a poker run work . . .

Planning on grinding a lot of cash this weekend. May even stay Sunday and drive back early Monday morning . . .

  2. P Cube,

All the Caesars properties changed their rake recently. From 4+1 to 4+2. They are now doing a $2 drop for the bad beat and other promo's. This irked a lot of people and are showing their dissent by no playing there other than the tournaments.

If you get a chance please do give some business to Revel for their comps and their low rake.

    1. GP, I saw your post on 2+2 last night. Not sure what Caesars is thinking. Particularly on the eve of a crap load more regional competition. Seems like these games become less and less about poker, and more and more like a raffle . . .

  3. Not sure what's going on with all the blogs on blogspot, but it seems they've been getting inundated with spam comments. For the past few weeks, my inbox has been getting hammered with spammer messages about "see my website..." crap. Have you been seeing it on your end? I'm not sure how to stop it from happening other than not subscribing to comments by email, which will make me miss other's comments.

    1. I've been getting them for the past month or so. I've been contemplating using a verification system like your blog uses. But, I take it that is not really the answer.

I've been periodically just deleting the spam comments. Fun stuff.

    2. I've been getting a ton lately also. I decided to go with comment moderation for now just becuse I am tird of having them pop up. Maybe verification would be better?

  4. P Cube, forgot about the Summer Series at Borgata. You are not planning to try at least one for kicks?

PM, I am not sure whether there is anything that Blogpost can do, if the users fill the authentication word and submit the junk.

I would redirect all the messages coming from blogpost to a folder and pick and choose which ones I want to read. That way at least your inbox won't be flooded.

    1. You're actually the reason why I wrote the comment. You reply as anonymous, as do almost 100% of the spammers. I had taken to the process of deleting anonymous posts, and inadvertently missed your response on here.

    2. My problem with the Borgata series is that I really can't take off work during the week. And, usually, the weekend events are more than I like to spend on a tournament.

Speaking of tournaments . . . what the fuck has Del Park done? I just looked at their June schedule. I guess the PLO is interesting. But the noon is now an hour earlier, and they are running only the 11:00 am and 7:00 pm NL's on the weekends.... I assume they have a strategy . . .

    3. P Cube,

The WSOP, the big Series at Borgata they are feeling they are not getting much demand for their tournaments.

Also, the dismal showing for their classic. Looks like they are cutting corners to save.

I like DP for their tournaments. It has been quite sometime that I played there, the last time I remember going there on a whim and taking down a 40 player bounty field for first place (600ish + 12 bounties).

The Sat'day event at Borg is a 100K GTD for $400. The evening events look nice as well. Check their schedule and see if something interests you.

    4. The Saturday event at 11:00am does look good. Unfortunately, I decided to head down prolly tomorrow morning because of the weather / traffic tonight. I'd have to get up around 5:00 am to make the start. I'll prolly just slum the 2:00 pm at Showboat and pound some beers instead.

    5. P Cube,

Any info on good machines for VP at Revel, Showboat and Borgata. I am thinking JoB or DW. Specific locations to look for will be helpful.

    6. I haven't been playing much single hand VP lately. I still like the 100 hand games, and the best (by far) are at Borgata. There is a row of 4 or 5 machines across from their equivalent of the Diamond Lounge. Decent pay outs. They even have "deuces bonus" which gives you a kicker for 5 of a kind.

Harrah's also has two 100 hand machines in the smoking section, but the payouts blow.

Beyond that, if you are just looking for a single hand game, pretty much every place is about the same. The "poker bars" at Harrahs do seem to have worse payouts then the machines elsewhere in the casino, though
