Month in Pictures

It's been a rough summer work-wise.  But, I've tried to make the most of my free time.  Since returning from Vegas 4th of July weekend, this has happened:

Weekend series at the Yard - Saturday night / Sunday games:

Followed by my first trip to Nats park this season.  Caught all of a three games series against the Dodgers.  Saw Kershaw, Grienke and Scherzer throw over the three days.

Then, Monday, the Mets game to town.  I sucked it up and scalped a ticket of Stubhub to get close to the action for "Harvey Day."

This weekend, it was back to Baltimore for Billy Joel at M&T Bank.  Got a room at the Hilton with a decent view:

Ended my run Saturday afternoon at an empty Camden Yards:

4th Row Field for Billy Joel Saturday night:

On the way back from Baltimore today, I stopped by Maryland Live! to cash out some free play.  I grinded the 100 hand machine and hit flopped quad 10's . . . twice!

Round Up

It's Saturday morning.  Up early, watching the latest episode of Suits On-Demand before grinding out some billable hours today.  After 20 years in the profession, I'm beginning to think TV lawyers'  portrayal of the business differs slightly from reality.   I want to see the episode where Mike Ross spends 15 hours incorporating comments from five different parties into a draft document, and re-reading and cite-checking 10 times, driven by utter fear that if the brief gets filed with a word missing an apostrophe, all hell will be unleashed.

Any way . . .

A week ago, I was in vegas for a quick weekend.  The trip began Thursday morning, in style, with a conference call in a quiet area of BWI, 40 minutes before my flight took off.  The call ended with marching orders to get a memo turned around COB, which meant the flight was spent working.  Thanks to technology, I was able to get the work done, and even send out the memo, at 37,000 feet.

I landed late afternoon and played some devils game.  Kings were hot:

Unfortunately, Kings were the ONLY thing that was hot.  The sweet, sweet VP crushed me over the course of 3 days.  And, aside from VP, and sports betting, the only other gambling that took place the entire trip was two quick sessions of late night black jack.  On Friday, I lost $200 in about 10 hands.  Then, Saturday, I won $200 just as fast.

Thursday night, word spread that a mix game was brewing at Mirage, where Alaska Girl was dealing.    a bunch of blogger/twitter friends were planning on making their way over . . . at, like midnight.  Unfortunately, I had been up since 5:00 am, east coast time, and I'm old . . . I faded and was unable to make the game.  In fact, I was asleep by 10:00 pm.

Friday, I spent most of the day at the pool.  Then it was off to the Kenny Chesny show at The Hard Rock.  Hell, I did not gamble a dollar until after midnight, when I played the 10 hands of black jack mentioned above.

Saturday was likewise chill.  It was cloudy most of the day, so I skipped the pool in favor of watching baseball and smashing VP over at the Linq, and then went back for night two of the KC shows.

The Joint remains one of my favorite places to catch a show.  The general admission is usually expensive, but hard to beat.  Where else can you see "stadium acts" from a few feet away?

In the end, it was a very mellow trip to Vegas.  I saw no one . . . I played no poker.  I think I'm sort of burnt out on Sin City for the moment.  Fortunately, I likely won't get back to the desert until next year. I'm sure I'll be motivated for a return by then.
